La Academia de Lucha Libre de Harlem se fundó para impartir clases de artes marciales, tanto de boxeo como de jiu-jitsu, a los jóvenes de Harlem. Su misión es "romper las barreras económicas que impiden a los jóvenes alcanzar su máximo potencial a través del atletismo, inculcando a la vez los valores fundamentales de disciplina, respeto y perseverancia que conducen al éxito tanto dentro como fuera del tatami". Esta es una misión que todos podemos apoyar. Además, acaban de finalizar su segundo evento anual de lucha, que incluye combates con y sin kimono. Visitar Harlem siempre es especial, y lo que han aportado a la cultura de Harlem es algo maravilloso.

El ambiente era como el de un pueblo pequeño: combates agresivos en un ambiente cálido. Además, han logrado reunir una buena combinación de patrocinadores y seguidores, incluyendo a Shoyoroll, quien siempre ha apoyado proyectos comunitarios y a la próxima generación de campeones. En Nueva York tenemos la suerte de contar con un calendario repleto de eventos de deportes de combate, y el Evento Anual de Lucha Libre de Harlem es una gran adición a la lista. Harlem Free Fight Academy was established to provide martial arts instruction; both boxing and Jiu Jitsu to the kids of Harlem. Their mission,” to break down the economic barriers that prevent youth from reaching their full potential through athletics, while instilling the core values of discipline, respect, and perseverance that lead to success both on and off the mat”. This is a mission we can all support. They also just finished their second annual grappling showcase which features both gi and no gi fights. Visiting Harlem is always special, and what they’ve added to the culture of Harlem is a beautiful thing.

The atmosphere was like what you would find in a small town. Aggressive fights with a warm atmosphere. They’ve also been able to bring a good mix of sponsors and supporters including Shoyoroll whom have always ben supportive of community based projects and the next generation of champions. In New York we are lucky to have a packed calendar of combat sports events and HFF Annual Showcase is a great addition to the list.
